Sony could have used improved DualShock 3 technology?

According to Ryan Payton, who’s working on Metal Gear Solid 4 for PlayStation 3, Sony is using technology in its DualShock 3 PS3 controller that’s more than ten years old. This old rumble technology uses two motors to create the complex set of sensations whereas the technology from Immersion’s new TouchSense uses a single motor. The latest Immersion vibration technology requires less energy, but instead Sony is using the old technology for unknown reasons. Sony says they have a standard royalty rate and they don’t want to make the DualShock 3 controller more expensive.
